Fast Moving Florence House Fire Claims One Life

The Los Angeles Fire Department quickly extinguished flames at a south Los Angeles home Sunday evening, in what proved to be a deadly fire.

The fire was reported at 6:18 PM on April 28, 2024, at 140 East 71st Street in the Florence neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Forty LAFD responders under the command of Battalion Chief Peter Hsiao arrived quickly, and took just 14 minutes to fully extinguish the fire.

During their attack on the flames, firefighters discovered one person lifeless in the residence. Beyond medical help, that person was determined to be dead at the scene.

No other injuries were reported.

The specific cause of the fire is under active investigation. A positive identification of the decedent, as well as the cause, time and manner of their death, will be determined by the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner.
